  1.     The Rules of Royal Cotillion

  4. Royal Cotillion uses two standard 52-card decks (no
  5. jokers) dealt together.  The game begins by dealing
  6. twelve cards in three rows of four cards each, forming
  7. the left tableau.  The right wing of the tableau is
  8. formed by dealing four rows of four cards each.  The
  9. foundations are formed in two columns between the left
  10. and right tableau.

  12. Foundations are formed in the following sequences for
  13. each suit:

  15.           A,3,5,7,9,J,K,2,4,6,8,10,Q
  16.           2,4,6,8,10,Q,A,3,5,7,9,J,K

  18. In the left wing of the tableau, only the bottom card
  19. of each column is available for play, and spaces are
  20. never filled.  In the right wing, all cards are
  21. available, and spaces are filled immediately from the
  22. wastepile, or, if there is none, from the deck.

  24. Cards are turned up from the deck one at a time, and
  25. may be played either to the foundations or the
  26. wastepile.  The top card of the wastepile is always
  27. available for play.

  29. The game is won if all eight foundations are
  30. completed, or lost if a block is reached.

  32. It is advisable, if you have a choice, to play from
  33. the left wing first, thus freeing up additional cards.
  34. In the right wing, you should not make a move merely
  35. because you can.  It is better to wait to make a space
  36. until a desirable card to save turns up.
